The highly anticipated undisputed heavyweight championship bout between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk has been rescheduled for May 18 in Saudi Arabia, according to Turki Alalshikh, the chairman of the kingdom’s general entertainment authority. The announcement was made during an episode of “The MMA Hour” where Fury, Usyk, and their respective managers were present.
Originally scheduled for February 17 in Riyadh, the fight had to be postponed after Fury suffered a cut over his right eye during a sparring session. Speaking on the program, Fury explained that he had been sparring with four different opponents when he received an accidental elbow to the eye, resulting in a split and requiring 11 stitches. This was the first time Fury had experienced such an injury while sparring.
Addressing concerns about the rescheduled bout, Alalshikh stated that if either fighter were to withdraw from the May 18 fight, they would forfeit $10 million from their purse. Additionally, he confirmed that even if one fighter were to withdraw, the remaining fighter would still compete on the scheduled date.
