The highly anticipated first season of the “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” series on Disney has concluded, leaving fans eager for more. The season finale stayed true to Rick Riordan’s first book, as Percy (Walker Scobell), Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries), and Grover (Aryan Simhadri) bid farewell to each other, knowing they will reunite in the near future for more world-saving adventures. However, the path they took to get there was full of unexpected twists and turns, even for fans of the novel.
One of the most notable departures from the book was Percy’s failure in his quest. He and his friends missed the summer solstice deadline to retrieve Zeus’ stolen master lightning bolt, which sparked a war between Zeus and Poseidon (Toby Stephens) and deviated from the original storyline. Undeterred, Percy and his companions ventured into the Underworld to confront Hades (Jay Duplass). They emerged with the realization that Ares (Adam Copeland), the god of war, had conspired with the titan lord Kronos (Nick Boraine) to overthrow the Olympians.
In an epic battle, Percy managed to defeat Ares, acquiring both Hades’ stolen helm and Zeus’ stolen bolt. He gave the helm to Hades’ henchwoman, Alecto (Megan Mullaly), as a bargaining chip to secure the release of his mother, Sally (Virginia Kull), from the Underworld. Despite Annabeth’s warning that Zeus would kill him, Percy embarked on a journey to Olympus. His mission was twofold: to return the master bolt and, more importantly, to warn Zeus about Kronos’ plan and put an end to the war between the gods.
The first season of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” took viewers on a thrilling and unpredictable journey. While deviating from the original book in certain aspects, it stayed true to the spirit of Rick Riordan’s beloved series. Fans can eagerly anticipate the next season, where Percy and his friends will continue their heroic quests and face new challenges in the world of Greek mythology.
