It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of country music star Toby Keith at the age of 62. According to a statement released on his website, Keith had been battling stomach cancer, a fight he described as “debilitating.”
Throughout his more than 30-year career, Toby Keith brought joy to millions with hits such as “Who’s Your Daddy” and “Made in America.” His music resonated with fans around the world, and his talent and passion for country music will be sorely missed.
Keith’s statement mentioned that he faced his illness with grace and dignity, and he expressed his gratitude for the support he received during his fight. He leaves behind his wife, Tricia Lucus, and three children.
Keith had been undergoing chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery for his cancer, and he had come to terms with whatever the outcome may be. Born in Oklahoma, he had worked in oil fields and even played semi-professional American Football before finding success as a musician in the 1990s.
His debut single, “Should’ve Been a Cowboy,” released in 1993, became a chart-topping hit. The song celebrated the cowboy lifestyle, paying homage to singing cowboys Gene Autry and Roy Rogers.
