Officials have confirmed that the large explosions near a Sikh temple on Monday afternoon were caused by propane tanks that caught fire. The incident took place at a building in front of the Gurdwara Sacramento Sikh Society along Bradshaw Road, south of Gerber Road.
Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters reported hearing loud explosions. Several propane tanks had blown up, with the blast radius reaching at least 50 feet high. Fortunately, the Sikh temple itself remained undamaged.
Videos shared with KCRA 3 captured the building engulfed in flames and one of the explosions as it occurred. Aerial footage from LiveCopter 3 revealed two destroyed vehicles and firefighters working to extinguish the remnants of the fire.
Photos shared by the fire department showcased the propane tanks that had caught fire, further illustrating the intensity of the incident.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire and the subsequent explosions. The safety of the surrounding area and the Sikh temple will be a top priority as the investigation progresses.
For now, the Sikh community and the Gurdwara Sacramento Sikh Society can be grateful that the temple itself was spared from damage, and that there were no reported injuries resulting from the incident.
